• Weekend Links

      As we slip into this long weekend that concludes summer, I’m reminded that even though seasons come to an end, the steadfast love of the Lord never ceases. This weekend may we have open hands to receive what God chooses to give. May we have outstretched hands to give to others out of God’s graciousness to us. May we have lips to speak truth in gentleness and love. May we have mouths that break forth in song to our Creator. And in all things may we lift high the name of Jesus, clinging to His work accomplished for us on the cross. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Because the end of August is…

  • Because It’s Tuesday :: A Giveaway

    Two weeks from today my oldest two girls are going to school.  One of them to First Grade, one to Kindergarten.  Both attending public school for the first time.  And while I’m confident this is the best decision for us right now (more on that in a later post, maybe), it’s still a bit disconcerting to think of them being away from me all day.  However, I can literally see the door of their school from my driveway, so there is some comfort in knowing that they are right next door. These two weeks are for getting everyone ready for a new routine, squeezing out a few more beach days…

  • On purses and poverty and how you can make a difference

    I was fresh out of college and eager to make a difference in the world when I arrived at the airport to head to the Middle East.  It was with tears in my heart but a smile on my face that I said goodbye to my parents and walked through the terminal to what would become one of the greatest adventures of my life. I had traveled to China before on my own, but always at the other end of my journey was my parents, their home and familiar surroundings.  This time, I knew six people who would meet me on the other side, but I was entering a place completely…

  • Weekend Links

      This weekend, may we find joy in the journey, peace in the midst of uncertainty, hope in our desperation, and delight in the Lord.  May we be quick to listen, slow to speak, slow to become angry.  May our hearts be tuned into the needs of others, laying aside our own wants in order to give selflessly that we might point others to Jesus, the One who came not to be served but to serve. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ A few roundups from around the world of the internet… Julie shared their most recent living room look.  David and Julie recently adopted two precious little boys, which means their family went from 4 to 6…

  • Weekend Links

      As you read this, I’m most likely on my way to the beach.  A vacation with my family and some good friends that I’ve been looking forward to for months!  Scenes like the one above will be upon us in just a few short hours and I am so thankful! Some bits of inspiration for your weekend that I rounded up for you from around the internet… For those who might want a new breakfast treat this weekend, might I suggest this blueberry scone recipe.   And because it’s summer, tomatoes are in season, and I find myself eating a cheese and tomato sandwich almost everyday, this recipe looked amazing.  It…

  • A Message for your Home

    I have some really exciting news for you today!  News that I think you and your home will be happy to hear! You might remember this post from two weeks ago, where I shared a little bit about an online course I was taking called Cozy Minimalist, by Myquillin Smith (aka, Nester).  It was a four week course that I absolutely loved and has helped me with ideas and principles for decorating our home. Well, guess what?  Myquillin is now offering this as a self-guided course! For just $39, you will have access to all of the recorded sessions that we received in our course last month. That’s a pretty…

  • For Your Weekend

    Things are shaping up in our new Virginia home quite nicely!  There are just a few boxes remaining to unpack and then I can get into the fun part of decorating and prettifying our home.  I thought I’d share some of my favorite ‘Pins’ as I’ve been planning and trying to think through the best ways to organize and set up our home. We have a living room that is mostly empty, so we’ve been dreaming and planning about how to best use that space for visiting with friends.     A new kitchen always means finding creative ways to store dishes, utensils, and other odds and ends.  My goal…

  • Giveaway Day 4 :: Noonday Collection

    When I was about 12 years old I began forming a relationship with a missionary couple who were serving in West Africa.  I remember my parents inviting them into our home and eagerly listening to the stories they would tell about life in a place that was so foreign to me.  They were working with blind students, and then later moved on to help with a translation of the Bible in another part of that same country.  This relationship had a significant impact on my life:  God used their ministry to give me a burden for the world, people who are in need of the Gospel. This burden has continued to…

  • Day 11 :: Links for your Weekend

    There are countless people who have blessed my life over the years.  And as I thought about how to refer to them (in light of this series) I decided to make up a definition to the word blesser.  The dictionary definition is circular (one who blesses), so I thought mine better captured what people who bless me actually do: Today I’m sharing with you two people who have impacted my life through their blogs.  Meet these blessers: Julie, a friend from college who I haven’t seen in over 10 years–since the day she married the smartest guy on our college campus–has been a blesser in my life through her writing.…
