• Day 16: Beef and Red Potato Stew

Yesterday after church, a friend and I combined ingredients we had on hand and made this yummy stew!  One of the things I love about soups/stews, is that just about anything (within reason) can be put together into a pot and ends up tasting amazing.  It’s a quick and simple way to get a hearty meal, for little cost. We served ours over brown rice, but you could just eat it plain.  And, of course, serve it with some homemade biscuits and jam.  (I’ll share my favorite biscuit recipe with you soon). • Day 15: Oven Roasted Potatoes

Please, accept my apologies for not posting over the weekend!  If you’re a regular reader, you know that I normally only post during the week, so sometimes doing one on the weekends for my series is a challenge.  This weekend was especially packed, so I haven’t even been on the computer for more than about 5 minutes since Friday.  Don’t worry, I’ll make up for it by back-posting 🙂 This potato recipe is a great way to eat potatoes, as it’s healthy, easy, and delicious!  Really, oven roasted potatoes are perfect for any time of year, but I especially like to pair them with pork dishes, which are a great…

  • Day 14: Guest Post from The Blue Ladybug –Stromboli sans Sauce

Today I have a special treat for you (in more ways than one), as we have a guest post from one of the awesome ladies behind my sponsor, The Blue Ladybug.  I was so excited when Mary Beth agreed to guest post here, as it was a rather last minute request on my part, because I was confident that whatever she sent me was going to be amazing!  I think you’ll enjoy this recipe; it’s actually perfect for a Friday night, so if you don’t have anything planned yet, start baking… And, The Blue Ladybug has a great sale going on right now on one of their outfits.  Sale ends…

  • Day 13: Tomato Soup and ‘Grown Up’ Grilled Cheese

Did you know that with just a few extra ingredients you can turn a can of tomato soup into restaurant style tomato soup?  And, come on, once you pass those youthful years, put away the American cheese slices and fix some grown up, adult style, dare I say gourmet, grilled cheese. Tomato SoupPrintable Version 2 cans condensed tomato soup3 tablespoons butter1/4 red onion, sliced thin1 garlic clove1 can diced tomatoes2 canfuls of milk3 teaspoons sugarsalt and pepper to tastedill (optional) Melt butter in a medium saucepan.  Add onions and garlic and saute until tender, about 5 minutes.  Add soup and milk (fill both soup cans with milk for the perfect…

  • Day 12: No Season is Complete without Chocolate

Do you ever just want a dessert that you can throw together in about 5 minutes without having to exert much brain power or even energy?  Most chocolate cakes don’t fit that, but I have a recipe for you today that only requires three basic skills:  an ability to measure ingredients, an ability to pour, and an ability to stir.   If you have kids in your life, this would be fantastic to make with them.  In fact, you could probably just delegate the whole process to them, it’s that simple.  And, if you’d like to have a teaching element to it, go ahead and research why the ingredients in…

  • Day 11: Some Kitchen Inspiration

Today, it’s YOUR turn to find a fantastic recipe that fits into 31 Days of Fall from the Kitchen.  I’ve gathered a few recipes from Pinterest (where else??) and I’d love for you to choose one and make it!   Some are complicated and some are pretty easy, so ‘choose your own adventure’, if you will. Yes, I love cooking and sharing recipes on my blog, but there is a greater purpose behind this blog: TO INSPIRE.   Cooking and baking from scratch is not as difficult as it might sound, and hopefully that comes across through the recipes (and other projects) that I share.   But, if my readers…

  • Day 10: Pork Chops with Apple Chutney

Pork seems like a great fall dish to me because it can be served with some awesome fall vegetables and fruits.  For some reason my mom always had applesauce when she served pork chops, so when I found this recipe, I decided it needed to be included in my series. I feel the need to be honest with you on this recipe, though, in that there wasn’t a ton of flavor in the pork by itself.  The chutney made the dish.  Perhaps a bit of sage thrown onto the pork chops might solve this problem, but it was still tasty. • Day 9: Spinach and Roasted Red Pepper Gratin

First of all, I apologize for not posting this yesterday.  We took an impromptu trip to visit my sister and brother-in-law, and by the time we were finished walking around town, eating dinner, wrangling our children into bed, and hanging out, I was asleep on the couch and decided that everyone would forgive me if I didn’t post a recipe yesterday, and instead did two today.  Sorry!  Here is the recipe that I was planning to do yesterday, and you’ll have to hold tight for the 2nd one later on today. This recipe is one that I was served while living overseas a few years ago.  One of my co-workers…

  • Day 8: Tortilla Bean Soup

Did anyone else receive lots of great recipes at a bridal shower?  I received a TON, and I love looking through them and trying them each out.  We’ve been married for five years and I still haven’t gotten through them all, but maybe that could be a cooking goal for the near future….we’ll see. This recipe stood out as one that would definitely fit into my 31 Days of Fall from the Kitchen series, simply because it’s a soup and it’s hearty.  I love the way it tastes but it’s also great because it is super easy!  You could easily just throw everything in a pot and be done.  Plus,…

  • Day 7: Pumpkin Banana Muffins

My original recipe for today was going to be a dinner dish, but we’ve decided to go out with some friends, so that will have to wait for another day.  While I was looking around trying to figure out what to do, I noticed that some bananas were in my fruit bowl perfect for banana bread.  Banana bread isn’t ‘fall’ enough for this series, so I googled pumpkin banana bread and was surprised to find quite a few different recipes.  I’ll have to admit I was a bit skeptical at first, but when I took a bite of one, it was delicious!  The flavors blend well, with neither one overpowering…
