Giveaway Day 3 :: The Best Yes
This summer I read an article written by Lysa Terkeurst, What We Miss When We Rush. I had been hearing about her new book, The Best Yes, through posts on social media, but this was my first time to hear from her about this book. Do you know what got me? The story she shared in that article was about a man with special needs who sat near her on an airplane ride. She witnessed him experiencing the wonder of flying, without holding any of his emotions back. A few years ago this might have pulled at my heart strings a little, but now? These kinds of stories move me tremendously because I realize that could be my son one day. I never imagined that I would have a child with special needs. Those aren’t the kinds of things that a Mama generally asks for. But, you know what? My little 2 year old boy with Down syndrome is one of the most precious gifts that God has ever given me. God shows me this more and more each day, and I can honestly say I wouldn’t want my life any other way. In the article Lysa wrote this summer, she announced that any purchases of her book made through Dayspring during a certain period of time, she would donate the proceeds to an organization called 99 Balloons. I had never heard of them before, but after a little research, I immediately wanted to support them! This particular initiative was helping to fund a project that would enable churches to provide respite care for families who had children with special needs. (Think: an evening of childcare at the church so the parents can have a night out). This kind of ministry is life-changing for someone who has a hard time leaving their child with a babysitter due to medical needs, or behavioral issues that most people aren’t willing to care for. 99 Balloons is also working globally to minister to people around the world who are raising children with special needs. This kind
of thing excites me, big time. So, I bought two copies of her book. I read The Best Yes during our week at the beach in September and loved it. There is so much practical wisdom in it, and reminders about why we should consider carefully how we ‘spend our souls‘, as Lysa calls it. Today, I’m giving away the second copy of this book that I purchased over the summer. If you haven’t read it, it’s a fun and encouraging read. If you have read it, this would make a great gift for someone. Use the Rafflecopter form below to enter for your chance to win!
